This week in art, 2nd graders are learning about the difference between abstract and realistic. We journeyed outside the art room to the playground to try our best at drawing some realistic trees. We looked at the branches, leaves, and texture of the bark. Here are some of the students in Mrs. Carter's and Mrs. Waterstraat's class and their artwork:

The art room is already churning out some beautiful artwork during this past week of school. Here are some things we've been working on:
3rd grade is learning about the rainforest. We read the book The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. We created sketches of animals and rainforest scenes.
4th grade is learning about art from around the world. They are creating passports that will be used with our travel theme.
And finally, students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade created Olympic inspired figures in motion in honor of the recent Olympics in Brazil. In character education this month we are learning about working together in unity and finding out what unites us. We combined the paintings together to create a mural.

Hello Everyone! My name is Mrs. Ahiga, and I want to welcome everyone back for the 2016-2017 school year. I am looking forward to meeting new students and seeing familiar faces. This blog will serve as a place to post pictures and updates about things that we are learning in art class this year. Please check back to the blog regularly to see what your child is creating in art. This week we are discussing the BEARS Expectations and how these apply to art class. I am emailing home a letter that explains more. Please discuss appropriate behavior with your child. We want to make this year a success for everyone. Below is some of the current artwork displayed in the halls at Three Creeks; this work was created by students at the end of last year.
